Project Type

DIAL RESTORATION & AUTOMATIC WINDING ETC

Date

2013

Location

CROFTON - WAKEFIELD

The clock movement is a Gravity Flatbed quarter chime (used as a Time Piece) made by William Potts & Sons in 1916. There are two approximately 5'- 0" diameter flat copper dials.
Work carried out;
I approached and restored the clock dials and hands on site using a high quality paint system and 23.5 carat double thickness English gold leaf. The clock dials had to be completely marked out on site. I also replaced the dial fixings in stainless steel and filled in gaps in the stonework around the dials with Lime Mortar. The dial motion works were overhauled and an automatic winding unit with a pendulum regulator were fitted to the clock movement.
The regulator keeps the clock telling the correct time and also automatically adjusts the clock for BST/GMT.
The clock is now regularly maintained by Hills Tower Clocks and working well.
I regard my suppliers automatic winding units etc as the best in the Country, their ten year guarantee speaks for itself.
The clock dials still look as good today (2023) since they were restored in 2013.
