SAINT MARY'S CHURCH - CLOCK DIAL

Project Type

Restoration

Location

Beeston in Leeds 2017

This Turret Clock is a Plate & Spacer design (now part electric) made by William Potts & Sons of Leeds in 1888. The clock has one 4'- 6" stone dial with copper hands.
I was approached by the Church to restore the clock dial and hands (which where badly faded), the minute marks and outer ring had been painted out several years ago by others.
Work carried out;
We dismantled, cleaned and re-lubricated the clock movement and dial motion works before replacing the faulty drive motor. I then restored the clock dial and hands using a high quality paint system and 23.5 carat double thickness English gold leaf, I also restored the minute marks and outer gold ring. The clock is now regularly maintained by Hills Tower Clocks and working well.
The clock dial still looks as good today (2024) since restoration in 2017.
